Dr. Arul Saravanan Ramachandran was born in 1978, in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, India. He did his schooling at St. John’s Senior Secondary School and later at Santhome Higher Secondary School at Chennai. Graduated M.B.B.S, from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre in 2000. He received his Post Graduate training from Madras Medical College Chennai, India. Finished his D.P.M in 2006 and M.D. Psychiatry from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Karnataka in 2012. During DPM training, at the Institute of Mental Health, MMC, Chennai, he had exposure in Institutional Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. During MD training, he had unique exposure in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Psychiatric research and Community Psychiatry, with special emphasis on Alcohol and Substance use disorders. He served both in the mental hospital set up as well general hospital set up. After post-graduation, he was working in SRM Medical College & Research Centre, Chengalpattu District in the department of Psychiatry for more than 14 years. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, SRM Medical College and Research Centre attached to SRM IST (Deemed to be University), Chengalpattu District, India, developing it into a Centre of Excellence. The MD Psychiatry seats of the department were increased from 2 to 9 seats during his tenure.

 He has written a chapter on ‘Forensic aspects of Mood Disorders’ in the book ‘ Mood Disorder Today’; a chapter on ‘Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) for MBBS students’; Psychopharmacology’ for MBBS students and on ‘Panic Disorder’.  He has published many research articles in indexed journals. His areas of interest are Phenomenology, Mood Disorders, Insight, Medical Education and Psychiatric Research.
