Dr. Arul Saravanan Ramachandran was born in 1978, in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, India. A native of Alakudi village, on the banks of Kollidam River, he did his schooling at St. John’s Senior Secondary School and later at Santhome Higher Secondary School at Chennai. Graduated M.B.B.S, from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre in 2000. He received the Post Graduate training from Madras Medical College Chennai, India. Finished his D.P.M in 2006 and M.D. Psychiatry from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Karnataka in 2012. During DPM training, at the Institute of Mental Health, MMC, Chennai, he had exposure in Institutional Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. During MD training, he had unique exposure in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Community Psychiatry, with special emphasis on Alcohol and Substance use disorders. He served both in the mental hospital set up as well general hospital set up. After post-graduation, he was working in SRM Medical College & Research Centre, Chengalpattu District in the department of Psychiatry. He served as Examiner for the discipline of Psychiatry in India. He has written a chapter on ‘Forensic aspects of Mood Disorders’ in the book ‘ Mood Disorder Today’, apart from many research articles in indexed journals. His areas of interest are Phenomenology, Mood Disorders, Insight, Medical Education and Psychiatric Research
